The two arrive at a gruesome crime scene and out there is a mysterious and powerful force lurking in the shadows. One by one, other police officers are killed right before Sebastian’s eyes. Suddenly, something attacks Sebastian and he’s knocked unconscious. When he comes to he awakens in horrifying world with monsters wandering around. Your goal in The Evil Within is to first survive and second solve the mystery behind this maleficent force.

The Evil Within will be a pure survival horror game. Players will have to survive with limited resources and the world is designed to make players feel tense and anxious. Deadly and devious traps are scattered in the game. These can kill Sebastian, but they’re also useful because you can use traps against enemies. If that’s not unsettling enough, the world actually warps around the player’s actions in real time. The Evil Within changes elements like the background, walls, hallways, doors, and rooms. The last bit kind of reminds me of Eternal Darkness and its trippy sanity meter.

The Evil Within is slated for release in 2014 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC, and unspecified next generation consoles. The game is powered by the id Tech 5 engine.
