5pb have shared a look at a key scenario from Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram, showing the inevitable tragedy surrounding Mayuri Shiina and Kurisu Makise.
The footage starts out with Mayuri Shiina visiting her grandmother’s grave, where she unexpectedly meets Rintaro Okabe who had been waiting for her at the site. It was apparent to Mayuri that Okabe looked exhausted and she found it hard to speak to him as she only blamed herself for his current disposition. She decided to make small talk by explaining how she had a dream of this exact situation of both her and Okabe visiting her grandmother’s grave.
Just as she was about to speak her mind about herself being the reason Okabe has been stressed, he scolds her by telling her that she isn’t a burden at all. After being comforted and assured that she is not a burden, Mayuri tells Okabe that he hasn’t been the same lately, but she can’t quite put her finger on what’s wrong.
Okabe replies: “Mayuri, I’m sorry to make you worry like that… I only ask if you could refrain from asking any questions for now. When the time comes that I can say something, I promise to tell you. So, please…”
Mayuri agrees after considering how much pain she’s made him suffer through, and still can’t help but feel she’s a burden. However, she lightens the mood by offering to get some sweet dango, because eating good food is always a great way to cheer up. After lightly joking about Mayuri being a glutton, the two finish paying their respects to her grandmother and leave to get sweets.
The second part starts with Mayuri telling Kurisu Makise that she doesn’t want her to disappear and there has to be a way to prevent that from happening. Kurisu tells her that she’s thought of every possible way, but no matter what she does, Mayuri’s death would be inevitable if the world line isn’t back to normal, and by doing so would mean her own death.
Kurisu explains that Okabe has been working tremendously hard to find a way to save the both of them, having done countless time leaps to find any possibility, but to no avail. She tells Mayuri that at this point, the reason Okabe continues to time leap is due to his denial of knowing the inevitable. Kurisu then explains that if Mayuri’s previous fatalism is correct, the world line in which Kurisu has already died in, is the original world line. For that reason, she has already convinced Okabe to save Mayuri instead, which incidentally took a lot of convincing.
Kurisu does her best to smile and asks Mayuri to accept what is meant to be. However, no matter how much she tries to convince Mayuri, the young girl will not accept a world where her friend is destined to die. All she can do is blame herself and apologize for not knowing any better.
5pb’s Steins;Gate: Linear Bounded Phenogram is slated to be released on April 25th for PlayStation 3.
