As expected, Imageepoch discussed their next RPG, Sol Trigger, during their NicoNico presentation today, and Game Jouhou and Famitsu.com have details. CEO, Ryoei Mikage, says that the game will feature preposterously extravagant voice work, and that it is Imageepoch’s highest budget game to date with the most development staff. Curiously, Mikage wouldn’t say how long Sol Trigger has been in development, but that it’s been worked on for a considerable amount of time.
One of the unique mechanics of Sol Trigger is that you can continue to fight even after your HP has been depleted. Instead of HP, you’ll start to lose your “Sol,” which is described as the power of the soul. People with this power are called “People of the Light”. The primary use of Sol appears to be spending it to use skills during battle. Using different kinds of weapons unlocks different skills as you play the game.
There’s even a special kamikaze attack that uses up all your Sol and kills you, and players will also be able to enter a double-speed mode with the press of a single button.
The main character, as reported yesterday, is Farrell (first screenshot). He has a “Golden Sol” and his Sol Arm is a sword. Emma, his childhood friend, uses a gun as her Sol Arm. Finally, Walter (below) uses a scythe.
Sol Trigger will have an Easy mode to make it possible for players who just want to enjoy the story to play the game. Imageepoch also confirmed that there will be a pre-order bonus of some sort, but we don’t have details of what this will be.
Sol Trigger is slated for release in summer for 6,729 yen. Here’s the game’s debut trailer:
