Nico Nico Douga is like the YouTube of Japan with more annotations. Sony Computer Entertainment Japan partnered with Dwango to create a Nico Nico app for PlayStation Vita. This free download will be available on December 17, the day Sony’s new handheld launches in the region.
Nico Nico for PlayStation Vita functions just like the PC video sharing site. Users can browse videos and write comments in different colors.
The Nico Nico application will get a major update in 2012. A new version will let users record live videos and stream gameplay footage while they’re playing. This feature will be available for select games. While SCEA have not announced a Nico Nico application for North America, the site says these features will be part of a worldwide update. A hint, perhaps, that we’ll see the Nico Nico application overseas.
