Disgaea series artist Takehito Harada is taking a break from drawing demons and Pleinair to create witches and swamps. The Witch and the Hundred Cavalrymen takes place in a small magical land where there are two countries are connected by a tiny forest. There lies the ugly and evil Witch of the Forest plus the ravishing and genius Witch of the Swamp. Both sides fought for a hundred years, but both sides were equally matched. The Witch of the Swamp figured out how to turn the tides and discovered a soldier inside a dark abyss.
Metallica is the Witch of the Swamp, but you don’t play as her in the PlayStation 3 game. You control Hyakukihei, one of the ethereal hundred cavalrymen that actually has a physical form. He’s a blank slate with no concept of right or wrong. Nippon Ichi designed the PlayStation 3 action RPG like this to give players a lot of freedom.
Once you’re on the field, you can do whatever you want. Attack enemies or kill NPCs, it’s up to you. Areas have gigantic bosses to defeat. You can grab items dropped by enemies to overlevel your character or utilize the other 99 soldiers. Hyakukihei can call them for short periods of time.
The Witch and the Hundred Cavalrymen is slated for release in spring 2012. Nippon Ichi plans to release a limited edition bundle that includes a Nendoroid Puchi figure of Metallica, a hardcover art book, and a soundtrack CD.
