Prior to its release, we asked Senran Kagura: Portrait of Girls producer, Kenichiro Takaki, what he would add to a potential sequel, provided the game were to perform well enough to merit another one.

“First, more characters!” Takaki said to Siliconera. “I wouldn’t limit myself to just boobs; I’d nail down the perfect expression of the soft female form by giving the girls smooth, silken hair and clothes and moves that you can almost smell.”

“Gameplay-wise, there are a few things I would insist on doing,” he continued. “Instead of having it just be a simple side-scroller, I would set the camera to better capture the action for each scene. I’d also add co-op and versus play and let players dress the girls up and change how their outfits tear.”

Senran Kagura: Portrait of Girls also has something called the Yin and Yang system, by which the voices and personalities of your characters change during battle, depending on your fighting style. Takaki wants to improve upon this aspect of the game, too.

“I’d also change the variety of character voices to heighten the sense that these characters are real. Rather than having a system that says ‘play this voice when doing this action,’ it would be more like having the action voice match the feeling of the story; making them speak with heavy breaths after running, or making them squeal when you… Well, there is a huge pile of things I want to do.”

We asked Takaki this question as part of an interview that we conducted before the announcement that several parts of the game are only playable in 2D, so we can only assume that will be on the list of things to fix, too. Senran Kagura: Portrait of Girls sold over 52,000 copies in its first week, and gave 3DS sales a boost, too.
