The earliest downloadable content pack for Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will come in the form of two characters — Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorath. DLC pack #2, however, will feature something a little different.

The second DLC pack will add a new mode to the game, dubbed “Shadow Mode.” In this mode, CPU-controlled opponents will have custom fighting styles based on the style of notable real world Marvel vs. Capcom 3 players. Each pack will contain three teams of characters custom-programmed in this manner.

The first Shadow Mode pack, for instance, will be based on the fighting styles of the game’s producer, Ryota Niitsuma, assistant producer, Akihito Kadowaki, and one of the development team’s QA leads.

Capcom are already hinting at “personalities you know” for future Shadow Mode DLC packs. No doubt we’ll be seeing the likes of professional tournament players programmed into the game soon enough, which sounds like a fantastic way to inject a little more variety to the singleplayer experience.
