Namco Bandai lifted the curtain off Knights Contract with this ultraviolent trailer. In this movie, Heinrich cuts through monsters with a giant scythe and Bayonetta style torture attacks. Heinrich has nothing to fear though because he is immortal. Gretchen, the witch that cursed him with everlasting life, isn’t and you have to guard her.
Knights Contract is Namco Bandai’s first take on the brutal action genre and it’s hard not to compare it to Dante’s Inferno, God of War, Ninja Gaiden… you get the idea. But, this game has two elements that stretch the formula.
First, you have to protect Gretchen. Heinrich is carrying her out of harms way in one scene. Keeping Gretchen alive will probably be a key game mechanic. Second, Heinrich is supposed to be immortal. How is Namco Bandai going to design a game where a giant claw to the face can’t harm the player? Will Heinrich come back to life Lost Odyssey style and Gretchen’s death be the only way to lose a level?
