From Software has a holiday updated planned for 3D Dot Game Heroes. The free update adds features like a loading screen viewer, optional hard drive installation, and DLC support.

What kind of downloadable content? The first pack contains ten stages for Block Defense and 10 pieces of edit character data (read: custom characters) for 250 yen ($2.75). The patch and the first 3D Dot Game Heroes DLC pack are dated for December 25.

On January 8, another DLC pack with ten custom characters for 100 yen ($1.10) will be available on Japan’s PlayStation Store. No word what kind of special characters players will get for a buck. Before announcing downloadable content From Software was releasing edit character data for free on the game’s homepage.

Atlus, the publisher of 3D Dot Game Heroes in North America, has not announced any plans for downloadable content at this time. Updates like the fan requested loading screen viewer and optional install will probably be included on disc in the North American version.
