Sony’s Tokyo Game Show booth brought additional details about Dress, an unusual PlayStation 3 product that’s more of an avatar customization program than a game. Players can design their own clothes or pick out snazzy designer outfits from actual brands like Puma and Beams. The neat thing about making your own clothes is you can send the designs online and other people can “buy” them in a virtual shop. This part I get and it makes sense with the eventual release of PlayStation Home.
However, forty-five seconds in the Tokyo Game Show trailer there is a 3D model in a Beams T-Shirt branded world with Stage 1 in the top left hand corner. The model doesn’t do anything it just stands there while the camera rotates. So… Dress is some kind of Beams T-shirt collecting game? Also questionable is if Dress will come out in North America. Regardless of the English menus, Dress looks very Japan oriented now. Sony Computer Entertainment could switch the brands for a US version, but this fashion designer software/Beams T-shirt world might be too abstract to localize. Dress comes out as a PlayStation Network download in Japan this Winter.
