Unless you’re waist deep into Ragnarok Online you probably won’t recognize the name GungHo. In addition to converting Rangnarok Online to the Nintendo DS they have another DS game, Hero’s Saga Laevatein. It’s a tactics game, but it’s not a derivative of Final Fantasy Tactics A2. You take on more of a Commander role in Hero’s Saga Laevatein by giving orders to over 100 troops in the midst of a battle. Formations play an important role since you can position units in a line to attack or have them protect your hero, the only character who can grow, by literally forming a wall around him. Outside of battle you can equip your soldiers with different weapons and armor to change their function in battle. The commanding a large army system brings back memories of Sega’s forgotten Dragon Force series…
Hero’s Saga Laevatein has some wireless communication features. You can rent units from a friend or meet them inside a tournament. Maybe you can do both and have a borrowed unit a traitor. So far Hero’s Saga Laevatein is only coming out in Japan and it’s scheduled to arrive in stores on December 4. While we’re waiting to hear if it will get picked up internationally check out some of the character art.
