One day after the big Super Mario 35th Anniversary Direct that revealed a bunch of new games, Nintendo confirmed a milestone for an existing title on Twitter. There are now 20 million player-created Super Mario Maker 2 courses available. There’s even a new image to celebrate the occasion.
This comes alongside some other special announcements for the game. New substantial content isn’t on the way, but there will be a new Ninji Speedrun to celebrate the series’ 35th anniversary. It was brought up during the direct, and since then Nintendo also shared a screenshot on Twitter offering a very brief hint of what people can expect from the new challenge when it ends up being available sometime in November 2020.
#SuperMarioMaker2 is getting in on the 35th Anniversary fun too! This November, a Mario 35th Anniversary-themed Ninji Speedruns course will be added. Think you’re up to the challenge? pic.twitter.com/ExWs47dxMq

The last hallmark for the game came back in January 2020. That’s when Nintendo said there were 10 million Super Mario Maker 2 courses in Course World.
Super Mario Maker 2 is available for the Nintendo Switch. You can also find the original Super Mario Maker on the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Wii U.
