Nicalis, publishers of Cave Story and Ikachan, are bringing a 16-bit RPG to Nintendo 3DS, PC, Mac and Linux. The game is titled Grinsia, and is developed by Kemco, who are known for releasing a number of retro-styled role-playing games for mobile phones.

Grinsia starts out with a family of treasure hunters in search of a set of ancient ruins, hoping to discover riches. As their adventure progresses, they find themselves caught up in a more sinister plot than they had bargained for.

Nicalis’ version of the game will feature an all new SNES-styled soundtrack, a complete re-localization, day and night cycles and more. Additionally, the Nintendo 3DS version of the game will feature dual screen support.

“We’re excited to be partnering with Nicalis on publishing, Grinsia, one of our JRPGs for the Nintendo 3DS and PC,” said Masaomi Kurokawa, Deputy General Manager, Kemco Games.

“We’re seeing a fantastic resurgence in the genre, and hope that Grinsia is the first of many games that we can bring to new audiences,” said Victor Rodriguez, CEO and Executive Producer, Nicalis.
