White Guardian Studios has announced that, after nearly five years of development, the first chapter in its Celestial Tear trilogy, Demon’s Revenge, will be out for Windows PCs on August 25th.

Siliconera first caught sight of Celestial Tear: Demon’s Revenge as it was successfully Kickstarted last year. It’s of interest as it’s a 16-bit RPG set in a sci-fi fantasy world, and is inspired by comic books, Suikoden 2, and Final Fantasy VIII. It has a combo-based combat system influenced by brawlers like Street Fighter 2 and features western art styles with an old-school Capcom-style animation system.

As to the story, it takes place on the planet Hasphal, which was colonized by humans hundreds of years ago who didn’t realize there was intelligent life being squandered by their arrival. A lot of the tension in the story is found between the humans and the Jehts, the natives of Hasphal, who are hunted by human “ridders” even though they are a peaceful race. However, left with no choice and treated to only hatred and violence, the Jehts have since begun to live up to the monstrous traits the humans give them.
