In the latest global showcase for Metaphor: ReFantazio, Director Katsura Hashino introduced many new elements of the game, including the world, exploration, and combat system. The story of Metaphor: ReFantazio involves establishing bonds between the main protagonist and the many races of the world of the game in order to support your claim for the throne of the United Kingdom of Euchronia after the assassination of the king.

The combat system in Metaphor: ReFantazio will still be focused on turn-based battles, but it also incorporates action-RPG elements like actively fighting enemies in the field and dodging, creating a dynamic hybrid system. The game won’t be open world, but it will feature large vast areas. Enemies with a blue outline or icon are weaker and can be defeated easily in action combat, while enemies glowing yellow or with yellow icons are harder to defeat, and more suited to fight in turn-based battles.

Hashino also confirmed that the city of Royal Capital Grand Trad was designed by Guest Artist Koda Kazuma, who previously worked on NieR: Automata. In addition, the large armored vehicles featured in the game were designed by Ikuto Yamashita who also worked on the mech designs for Neon Genesis Evangelion.

From the mobile base known as the Gauntlet Runner, players can reach various destination and take new quests. Travelling will take time in-game, and time management will be an important aspect of the gameplay. The Job System in Metaphor: ReFantazio revolves around Archetypes. These work in a similar way to the Persona in the titular Atlus series, albeit with major differences. Seeker is an all-rounder, while the Mage focuses on strikes weaknesses, and the Thief excells at stealing items from enemies. Establishing new bonds with Followers will unlock new Archetypes.

The livestream is roughly 33 minutes, and it is available to watch dubbed and subtitled in English below.
