We called it when we discovered the ESRB’s ratings leak with five separate Tomb Raider: Anniversary titles scheduled for the Xbox 360. Eidos has now confirmed that they are releasing Tomb Raider: Anniversary in four pieces for 2400 Microsoft Points ($30) and the Croft Manor episode will be free to download. The first two episodes will come out in September and the next two will come out “shortly afterwards”. Besides selling the episodes Eidos plans to sell picture packs and theme packs to further cash in on Lara’s anniversary.
Here’s the strangest thing about the episodic content, to play any of it you need to have Tomb Raider Legend for the Xbox 360. Without the disc you will not be able to play any of the episodes. Also Eidos plans to release Tomb Raider: Anniversary for the Xbox 360 in retail stores later this year. Since you need Tomb Raider Legend (for the engine?) and you have to waste limited hard drive space the episodic content seems almost useless unless you need to have Tomb Raider Anniversary in HD right away.
