Japanese sales tracker Media Create has provided an update for this week in sales with a closer look at the performance of New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and how it compares to the original game.
According to the sales tracker, the period of January 7 through January 13, 2019 saw 53.26% in sales compared to the week prior. This indicates Japan spent most of its otoshidama and holiday money the week before.
Hardware sales were at around 104,000 in the week, or about 29.84% compared to the week prior, to make for a much bigger drop than software sales. However, compared to this period of last year, software sales are on the rise at about 123.29%. Hardware sales were about the same as last year at 101.13%. Media Create points out that the increase in both software and hardware sales is mostly thanks to the Nintendo Switch.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe made its debut selling 166,303 units on the Nintendo Switch with a sell-through rate of about 52.53%. When the original game, New Super Mario Bros. U, released as a launch title for the Wii U it sold through 55.32% of its initial shipment in its debut, so we’re seeing seeing a similar start for the new Switch game.
New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe is available worldwide for the Nintendo Switch.
