Square Enix announced yesterday that Dissidia Final Fantasy NT is getting a new free-to-play version called Dissidia Final Fantasy NT Free Edition.
Free Edition will not include the story mode, Treasure, and some courses in Rush Battle, and is instead focused on the online component of Dissidia Final Fantasy NT. Players of Free Edition will be able to fight against players of the full game, although you’ll need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play online.
Another thing to note about Free Edition is that characters are rotated in and out on a weekly basis. That said, there will always be four characters to play as, one from each character type. Even after characters become unusable, your statistics and character stats will be saved, so you can continue with your progress the next time that character is back in rotation.
For those people who find a character they particularly like, they can buy that character individually to gain the ability to use them anytime, at the usual 800 yen price for DLC characters. Buying the character will get you the color variations of the 1st Form look of the character, several weapon sets, and nine special chat symbols.
The 2nd Form costume and colorswaps will be sold for an additional 300 yen. 4th Weapons will also be sold individually at 100 yen a piece.
A new ‘Mission’ feature will debut in both NT and Free Edition, where you complete missions to earn Gil. Square Enix explained that Free Edition players will be earning less Gil from each battle compared to NT players, but can make up for it by completing Missions, and use the Gil to buy new battle BGMs and player icons.
