We got a hint of a possible new Atelier game reveal and this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine has delivered with Atelier Lulua: The Alchemist of Arland 4 for PlayStation 4, slated for release in Japan in 2019. [Thanks, Ryokutya2089 and Hachima.]
Update: We got a first look from Famitsu magazine and learned its official spelling is Atelier Lulua. You can check out more in our follow-up report.
The character designs are being handled by Mel Kishida who worked on the previous three Arland games. The synthesis system is said to be an evolved version based on the Arland series’ system. As far as the battle system goes, it has elements from the Mysterious series that was well-received by fans along with some new systems thrown in.
As for the protagonist, she’s named Elmeria/Elmeruria Frixell (Note: One source has it as エルメリア and the other エルメルリア, but since it won’t matter until we get official romanization, we’ll stick with Elmeria). She’s characterized as a girl with long hair with heart symbols, and uses Rorona’s old clothes. She’s the daughter of Rorona, and in order to become like her mother she’s studying under her master. She comes across a certain book.
Eva Armster is a childhood friend of Elmeria’s. She’s a hard-working proper girl who helps out at the nursery school. While she has a gentle personality, she’s fierce in battles and uses big weapons such as bazookas and Gatling guns.
In Atelier Rurua we can expect to see an even larger Arland Republic. We don’t know much about the story, but it is mentioned that Elmeria’s mother Rorona is somewhere far away.
Atelier Lulua: The Alchemist of Arland 4 releases in Japan in 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. It’ll go for 7,800 yen and there will be a limited 10,800 yen version.
