Digimon series chief producer Kazumasa Habu recently reminded us that a new Digimon Story game in in the works, and he said in an interview with Famitsu that it’s in development using PS4 as a base.
Here’s a quote from Habumon in the interview:
Kazumasa Habu, Chief Producer: “While a new Digimon Story is in development with PlayStation 4 as a base, I believe it’ll still take some time for its development. Due to the recent increase in hardware spec as well as support for worldwide release, a single title now takes much longer to develop. When you don’t have anything new, a lot of people lose interest. In order to prevent that from happening, I hope we can keep the fans close as we continue releasing Digimon games.
So, we’d like to offer new content, starting with Digimon Survive. The original Digimon virtual pet games were popular, and when the TV anime first aired its characters gained popularity, and from there we got all kinds of fans, from the core fans to the lighter fans. We’re preparing an original world for this game, so that means in addition to the fans that continue chasing after Digimon, we want to have those who haven’t played it in a while or those who don’t know it all get a chance to enjoy it. It would make me happy to see the fan base expand from there so we can maybe have a new core series.”
Digimon Survive releases in North America and Europe in 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It releases in Japan in 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
