When Resident Evil 7 released in Japan it got a much tamer standard release and a higher rated “Grotesque Version” that still wasn’t as gory as the Western release, and Capcom will be giving the same deal in Japan for the upcoming Resident Evil 2’s remake. [Thanks, Gamestalk.]
According to some new info shared via the Japanese Microsoft Store, Japan will get a CERO D-rated “Standard Version” for those who prefer not seeing extreme violence. However, the “Z Version” will also be available for players 18 and older that prefer a bloodier version.
That said, if it’s anything like what the Grotesque Version was like for Resident Evil 7 in Japan, it’ll likely still be more censored than the standard release we got in the West. You can check out some examples of it in the video below:
Resident Evil 2 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2019. In case you missed it, the game’s producers recently talked about its lack of a VR mode, which you can read about in our previous report.
