Sonic the Hedgehog and Thunder Force IV, two of the three initially-announced Sega Ages collection of classic Sega games, is set to come out in August 2018 with additional features, such as the Drop Dash ability from Sonic Mania.
Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog
Original Mode
You can enjoy the Sega Genesis version of Sonic the Hedgehog, and easily use the Stage Select feature by turning the option on before entering the game. Furthermore, the Spin Dash from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and the Drop Dash from Sonic Mania have been added to the game. (They can be turned off in the Options menu.)
Furthermore, apart from the Japanese and International versions of the game, the Mega Play version of the game is also included. Mega Play are arranged versions of Genesis games that were changed for arcade play. The Mega Play version gives players a limited time to get to the goal like a Time Attack Mode, and stages are changed a bit to focus more on Sonic’s speed.
Ring Keep Mode
A support mode added in the 3DS version of 3D Sonic the Hedgehog 2. You start the game with 10 rings, meaning that it’ll be harder to die from an accidental hit or a boss right after losing a life and restarting.
Challenge Modes
There are two challenges – a ranking mode to see who can complete Green Hill Zone Act 1 the fastest across the whole world, and a Score Attack mode for the Mega Play version which ends as soon as you lose a life.
Thunder Force IV
This version of Thunder Force IV will feature the FIRE LEO-03 Styx from Thunder Force III as a playable unit. All of the weapons available in Thunder Force III will be usable in Styx mode.
Original Mode
You can play through the Sega Genesis version of Thunder Force IV, and can choose between the Japanese and International versions of the game. You can also choose to reduce slowdown in order to increase the difficulty, and choose whether you want the power up announcement voice to cut out the BGM like the original game, or not.
After beating the game once, Styx from Thunder Force III will be available as an extra playable unit, alongside Thunder Force IV’s Rynex.
Kids Mode
In Kids Mode, difficulty is lowered in a variety of ways, such as how you won’t lose your weapons when you lose a life. It’s a beginner mode based off the version of Thunder Force IV in the Sega Saturn’s Thunder Force Gold Pack 2.
Sega Ages Sonic the Hedgehog and Sega Ages Thunder Force IV will be available on Nintendo Switch in August 2018.
