Two new secrets have been discovered in the PlayStation 2 version of Silent Hill 2. A user known as punk7890 has found it is possible to enable a mini map in the game and save anywhere. In each case, specific controller inputs are required to bring up the capabilities.

The Silent Hill 2 mini map can only be used after getting the Dog Ending. (To get the Dog Ending, you need to either have unlocked the In Water, Leave and Maria endings or the Rebirth ending.) Once that ending is unlocked, it is possible to open up the mini map by holding down start, L2, square and L3 at the same time when you have control over your character. If the mini map is not opening, you either need to check and make sure you are using controller type 2 on an international version of the game or, before entering the code, go into the inventory, exit and hold down start while exiting while heading into the start, L2, square and L3 combination.

The ability to save anywhere in Silent Hill 2 uses a more complex button combination. First, make sure you have a memory card inserted. Then, when you have control of the avatar press left on the d-pad, left on the left analog stick, left on the right analog stick, L1, L2 and L3 at the same time. This should bring up the save menu.

Silent Hill 2 first appeared on the PlayStation 2 back in 2001. It has since been released on the Xbox and PC, as well as on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of Silent Hill HD Collection.
