A Nintendo arcade game never released outside of Japan is coming to the Nintendo Switch. Hamster is working with Nintendo to bring Arcade Archive to the eShop. This will be the first official, North American release of the arcade version of the game. (It did appear on the Atari 2600 outside of Japan.)
Nintendo’s Don James was there to talk about Arcade Archives Sky Skipper. 10 Sky Skipper cabinets arrived in North America for testing, but it was never released. One original cabinet was kept in Nintendo of America’s archives, and it is the only known North American cabinet. Nintendo pulled out the roms from this cabinet, copied them and sent them to Japan. James also confirmed that Shigeru Miyamoto did the cabinet art for the Sky Skipper original cabinets.
In Arcade Archives Sky Skipper, Mr. You is trying to save Wonder-Kingdom from gorillas. You fly around in a plane, dropping bombs on them while also collecting the King’s family to save them. The order in which you collect the members of the family, represented by suits of cards, impacts your score. The Arcade Archives version of Sky Skipper has the Original Mode, Hi Score Mode and Caravan Mode.
Arcade Archives Sky Skipper will arrive on the Nintendo Switch in July 2018.
