It’s been an ongoing question that fans have asked Sega since Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing—why is Sonic riding a car in Team Sonic Racing? And the question was recently answered during an official live stream. [Thanks, NintendoEverything.]
Here’s what Sega’s Aaron Webber from the social media and PR team had to say about it:
“So we’re going to set the record straight just in case. If he’s not in a car guys, the race is over before it’s begun. You know this. You know he’s fast. He’s faster than cars, so we gotta equalize the playing field. So please, spread the word if you see anyone curious why he’s in a car, there you go.”
During the live stream, Webber also commented with tidbits on the upcoming racer, saying that Team Sonic Racing will be “very, very different” from Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, and that it is not a sequel.
He also shared that Team Sonic Racing will have more characters from Sonic the Hedgehog than any past racing titles done with Sumo Digital. He also added, “Maybe there are some characters you have yet to see and play as that you haven’t been able to play as in a long time.”
And yes, there will be voiced lines in the game.
Team Sonic Racing releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC this winter. You can check out its reveal trailer in our previous report.
