It was confirmed recently that Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will not feature a campaign, becoming the first Call of Duty game to shirk the tradition. Treyarch recently explained in an interview with Eurogamer just why that was.
According to Treyarch head Dan Bunting, a traditional singleplayer campaign was never in the cards for Black Ops 4, as they set out to make a different game inspired by how the community has been interacting with Black Ops III. More and more players have focused on the multiplayer and Zombies mode, and this influenced Treyarch to “make a different style of game”.
However, for people looking to play Black Ops 4 alone, there will be several series of solo missions focusing on the backstories of the specialists that can be used in multiplayer.
In related news, it was recently mentioned in an interview with Twinfinite that there are no plans currently to bring the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to Nintendo Switch.
The port question stemmed from recent rumors that there would be a Nintendo Switch version with at least some aspects of the game, but Miller’s answer was a succinct “no”. Treyarch previously have done PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 ports for Call of Duty: Black Ops III with only the multiplayer options available.
Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII releases worldwide on October 12, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The PC version is fully-optimized and for the first time in franchise history will be available on Blizzard Entertainment’s online gaming platform, Battle.net, which is also the home to Destiny 2 on PC.
