Capcom announced today that Monster Hunter: World has set a series record for most units shipped in first three days with 5 million worldwide including digital download sales.
Since the first Monster Hunter game made its debut on PlayStation 2 about 14 years ago in 2004, the series has grown with cumulative sales of more than 45 million units worldwide as of January 28, 2018.
Monster Hunter: World is the first entry in the series to be given a global simultaneous launch, and as a result it has shipped 5 million units, the largest shipment for the series has achieved in the first three days following its release, which was January 26, 2018. To put things into perspective, Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was the series’ best-seller with a life-to-date of 4.8 million units sold.
Capcom plans to continue the support for the sales growth of the title with long-term plans that include a number of free downloadable updates featuring additional monsters among other content.
Starting Spring 2018, Capcom will hold events in seven areas across Japan leading up to the Monster Hunter: World Kariou Playoffs, where the top hunters compete in time attack competitions. Capcom also has other long-term plans to increase its brand value and further expand on its fan base with a Hollywood film adaptation of the series along with the Monster Hunter: The Real attraction that is currently running at Universal Studios Japan.
Capcom says it “remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry-leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”
Monster Hunter: World is available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The PC version is expected to launch in Fall 2018.
