People who happen to be playing Pokémon GO on Apple iOS devices will see the augmented reality aspects of the game improved this week. Niantic has announced AR+ mode. This works with the iOS 11 ARKit framework to add an “awareness” element to the game when people are using augmented reality and get a better sense of Pokémon’s scale and size.
When playing with AR+ mode on, people with iPhone 6s and newer model phones with iOS 11 will be able to see Pokémon increase and decrease in size, as well as get a better sense of dimension. In this mode, a bubble with an exclamation point will note the Pokémon’s awareness of you. Causing the meter to fill can make them run. If they do run, tapping grass nearby may make them reappear.
AR+ mode also introduces an Expert Handler bonus. The closer you get to a Pokémon when catching it, the more XP and Stardust you earn. It will also be easier to get Great or Excellent Throws if you are closer to a Pokémon.
Pokémon GO is available for Android and Apple iOS devices.
