Mario & Luigi: The Superstar Saga is heading to the Nintendo 3DS. Except this time, it is a remade and updated version with an entirely new mode called Mario & Luigi: The Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions. The game originally appeared on the Game Boy Advance.

The main draw might just be the Bowser’s Minions mode. In this portion, players follow a group of Bowser’s henchmen, led by Captain Goomba, as they go to save a kidnapped Bowser. This campaign is taking place during the events of the main game. You’ll control armies of Goombas, Lakitus, Hammer Bros., and other units. Choosing an effective army is necessary if you want to succeed, as each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses. As are Captain Commands, abilities that can be used with captain points to turn battles in your favor. One Captain Command may keep enemies from using special abilities. There are even extra captains to unlock, though Captain Goomba was the only one shown during the stream. This mode will be compatible with the existing Boo and newly announced Goomba and Koopa Trooper amiibo.

Other changes have been made in Mario & Luigi: The Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions. Updated graphics are also on display. 3D lighting techniques have been applied to the existing pixel art. The user interface and map system have been tweaked, with one example being pins people can place on the map to remind you to return to different places.

Mario & Luigi: The Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions will come to the Nintendo 3DS on October 6, 2017.
