Ahead of the holidays, Nintendo has decided to add a family friendly to the North American Virtual Console library. Nintendo Wii U owners can pick up Mario Party 2 starting today. This Nintendo 64 game originally debuted in Japan in 1999, was released worldwide in 2000, and appeared on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console in 2010.

In Mario Party 2, players are competing for control of an amusement park. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Yoshi, Donkey Kong, and Wario are the six playable characters, each with costumes that automatically change to match the six boards. This installment added Battle, Duel, and Item minigames to the series, allowed people to practice before playing a minigame for the first time, and was the first to offer items, like Mushrooms, Plunder Chests, and Boo Bells, for players to use and possibly improve their standing.

Mario Party 2 is $9.99 in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
