We recently learned that Final Fantasy XV sold 694,262 copies in Japan in its first-week debut, and sales tracker Media Create has followed up with additional information on how it performed.

With the release of Final Fantasy XV, Japan had a boost in software sales by 165.49% compared to the week prior with the game’s over-690,000 copies sold in its debut, making it the highest debuting numbers for a PS4 title in Japan, doubling the 293,652 copies Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain had in its debut.

However, Final Fantasy XV’s sell-through rate was reported as 64.63% by Media Create, and there are about 300,000 copies of excessive stock in the Japanese market. The sales tracker predicts that Square Enix’s announcement of future DLCs and additional content should have impact for future sales, including sales of used copies.

Nonetheless, Final Fantasy XV helped bring PS4 hardware sales up 281.11% from the week prior with its 110,318 units sold (63,000 units being the limited Luna Edition,” putting it at higher numbers than the increase back in September when the slimmer PS4 model was released (about 96,000 units) and more than last month when the PlayStation 4 Pro released (with about 92,000 units sold), making it the best week for PS4 console sales of the entire year.

For reference, the last time the PS4 hardware sold over 100,000 units in a week was during the Japanese launch week back in February 2014. With about 3,745,000 PS4s having sold thus far in Japan, we can say that 1 out of every 5 PS4-owners have purchased Final Fantasy XV.

Final Fantasy XV is available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
