Earlier this year, a collaboration between Sega and Sanrio was announced. The companies revealed a line of toys that had Sanrio mascots dressed as characters from Sonic the Hedgehog. After being given a fall launch window at the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con, the first phase of the collection’s debut date is December 15, 2016.
Only one variety of Sonic the Hedgehog x Sanrio toy will be available through Sanrio stores and Sanrio’s website this month. 10” plushes of Hello Kitty as Sonic, Chococat as Tails, My Melody as Amy, and Badtz-Maru as Tails will be sold. The launch date for the second wave, which will include new variations, additional plush toys, and vinyl figures, will be announced in 2017.
Sega is also planning a Sonic Dash event to celebrate the collaboration. Beginning today and lasting until December 28, 2016, Hello Kitty, My Melody, Chococat, and Badtz-Maru can be earned by completing in-game challenges in the game. One character will be available each week and, after being unlocked, will be available as a playable character for the user both during and after the event.
Sonic Dash is immediately available for Apple iOS and Android devices, as well as Windows Phones.
