During today’s Letter from the Producer Live, Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida revealed new information for the game’s upcoming 3.5 patch, The Far Edge of Fate, which is slated to launch in mid-January.
First off, in addition to new mains story quests, Yoshida unveiled the two new dungeons that would be headed to the game. The first is Baelsar’s Wall, while the second is a Hard Mode version of Sohm Al.

Next, Yoshida gave a look at concept art of the new trial Containment Bay Z1T9, the third installment of the Warring Triad series.
It was also revealed that new sidequests, including the Scholasticate, Hildibrand, and Anima Weapon quests would be added in the upcoming patch.
Next, Yoshida gave us a look at the third installment of the Mhach series of 24-person alliance raids, Dun Scaith, though it was hinted that this may not be the final part of this raid series.
Patch 3.5 will see the addition of many oft-requested features to Final Fantasy XIV, including the ability to queue for dungeons whilst having a companion Chocobo summoned. Rather than being treated as an extra party member, Chocobos will now be treated as a pet, such as a Summoner’s Egi. Chocobos will also be summonable with a full party, meaning you will be able to have 8 party members and 8 Chocobos in one party.
Another oft-requested addition coming in patch 3.5 is the ability for Summoners to glamour the appearance of their Garuda, Titan, and Ifrit Egis. After completing the corresponding quests, Egis will be able to take on the appearance of one of three different Carbuncles. It was noted that other Egi appearances will be added in future patches following 3.5.
The first part of patch 3.5, The Far Edge of Fate, is scheduled to release in mid-January, with the second part coming in March. More details will be revealed during the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Tokyo next month. To read more about today’s live letter, you can visit the official forums.
