The North American Virtual Console library has added four more games to its collection today. The Nintendo Wii U welcomes the TurboGrafx-16’s Bonk’s Adventure, New Adventure Island, and R-Type to the system. Meanwhile, the New Nintendo 3DS is getting Final Fight.
Bonk’s Adventure is an action game that originally appeared on the TurboGrafx-16 in 1989. In it, players help Bonk, a caveboy with an incredibly strong forehead, rescue Za, a dinosaur princess, from King Drool, an evil dinosaur monarch. Bonk hits his heads against enemies to defeat them, collecting slabs of meat along the way to make himself temporarily stronger. It’s $5.99 in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
New Adventure Island is another action game that originally appeared on the TurboGrafx-16. It appeared on the system in 1992. Master Higgins and Tina have finally gotten married, but Baron Bronsky kidnaps her and some of the children living on the island on their wedding day. Master Higgins must go through seven areas on foot or via skateboards, using weapons like axes, arrows, boomerangs, and fireballs to take out hostile wildlife and the Baron’s minions. It’s $5.99 in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
R-Type is a side-scrolling shoot’em up that originally appeared in arcades in 1987 before heading to the TurboGrafx-16. It’s a very difficult game where players pilot an R-9a “Arrowhead” and head off to fight the Bydo Empire and take down Bydo’s N32bosses. You’re equipped with a standard gun and wave cannon, but can eventually get a Force. The Force can be equipped to offer Air-to-Surface, Antiaircraft Lasers,or Reflecting Laser Beams or be an additional orbiting agent that provides supplemental aid as a second set of guns. The Force can also be used to ram enemies or shield your ship. It’s $7.99 in the Nintendo Wii U eShop.
Final Fight is a beat’em up from Capcom that originally appeared in arcades in 1989 before coming to the Super Nintendo. It follows Cody and Guy, who you may recognize from the Street Fighter series, and Mike Haggar, the mayor of the in-game city, as the three attempt to rescue Cody’s girlfriend, Jessica Haggar, from the Mad Gear gang. (She’s also Mike’s daughter.) While the original version allowed to people to cooperatively play together, the New Nintendo 3DS version is a solo affair. It’s $7.99 in the Nintendo 3DS eShop.
