Square Enix has announced a localization of the Apple iOS and Android versions of Romancing SaGa 2. The remastered version of the 1993 Super Famicom game was originally released in Japan on March 24, 2016, and allows people to be the emperor or empress of Avalon. This will be the first time the game has been released outside of Japan.
Romancing SaGa 2’s story takes place over many generations. The player’s leader is the first of many, as Imperial Succession is a critical part of the game. There’s a freeform scenario system, where your decisions and actions change the world over time and expand Avalon’s capital. Your advancements lead to new characters appearing, new equipment and abilities, and more options for the city. For example, building a university may help with ability acquisition. If your leader dies in combat or passes away after a long life, you pick a successor, who inherits your previous character’s abilities, and keep going.
Experimenting in battle is critical in Romancing SaGa 2. The arrangement of characters determines what they’re capable of in a fight. You may even learn new techniques from soldiers, if an emperor or empress doesn’t have Avalonian blood. Using standard attacks in battle is important too, as a Glimmer may appear that allows that character to learn a special ability.
As this is a remaster of Romancing SaGa 2, a number of adjustments have been made. The background graphics have been updated since the original Super Famicom version of the game. Also, some battle animations have been added. Four new dungeons, tied to the Seven Heroes from Romancing SaGa, are new to the game, as are Avalonian Garden and a New Game+ features.
A price and release date have yet to be announced for the Romancing SaGa 2 Apple iOS and Android localization.
