The Pokémon Company shared the latest information and screenshots for their upcoming 3DS eShop title, Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo in an update on the official website.
The game takes place in Rhyme City, where humans and Pokémon peacefully live together. A young boy named Tim decided to visit the city for a certain purpose. This is where Tim and Pikachu meet, and where a new story begins.
Pikachu is a famed detective who is able to speak with Tim. He’s a bit pushy towards Tim and can be arrogant.
He has a weakness for beautiful women. He occasionally instigates Tim into inviting girls he’s interested in to going out for some tea.
He loves coffee, and is a regular at a certain cafe. If he starts talking about something he knows a lot about, he’ll keep going on about it.
Pikachu is always on two feet. Even during urgent moments. That said, even when he runs at full-speed, he’s not very fast.
Pikachu can’t use moves, and he can’t even discharge electricity that well. He also hates being ordered around.
Pikachu is a bright detective with calm judgment, and can be relied upon.
Here’s a look at some of the other key characters:
Mike Baker (detective agency chief):
Amanda Blackstone (detective agency assistant):
Emilia Christie (new assistant director for a TV channel):
Meiko Okamoto (an energetic TV director):
Pablo Milan (barista at the High Hat Cafe):
Here’s a look at some of the Pokémon that will appear in the game:
Mischievous Aipom.
Trendy Furfrou.
Scraggy who plays at the park.
Slurpuff with drink samples.
The serious deliverer, Fletchling.
Ludicolo waitress of feigned ignorance.
Courtyard elder Trevenant.
Drifblim who follows the wind.
Litwick of dim light.
Here’s how you advance through the game:
The player takes on the role of Tim, and they’ll be tasked with inquiries and evidence collecting. Working together with Pikachu is essential.
While gathering info, you’ll travel around the field with Pikachu. Tim will be in charge of getting info from people, and Pikachu from other Pokémon.
Finding evidence from things and places is important. By closely examining the right areas, you might discover things that might have not been found the first time.
If Pikachu notices something, a “Pikachu Sign” will appear. You’ll get to hear him out and even get some hints by touching the sign.
For cooperation action events, you’ll need to press buttons in the right timing.
The above images show that a successful catch with the A button results in a proper catch, but missing it will have Pikachu fall down instead.
By using testimonies and the evidence gathered, you’ll get to use reasoning to come up with a conclusion. Pikachu will also follow along.
Detective Pikachu: Birth of a New Duo will be available to as a digital title in Japan for 1,500 yen, starting February 3, 2016. You can check out a trailer for the game in our earlier report.
