Eiji Aonuma’s Marvelous: Another Treasure Island Gets A Definitive Fan Translation

This article is over 8 years old and may contain outdated information

Before The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma worked on a few other games. One of them was NES Open Tournament, which was released in all regions. The other was Marvelous: Another Treasure Island (Marvelous: Mouhitotsu no Takarajima), which was not. An incomplete fan translation was released years ago, by tashi in 2012, but a new and updated translation from DackR has just been released.

Marvelous: Another Treasure Island was a role playing game following three boys, Deon, Jack, and Max, as they explored Camp Island in search of the Marvelous treasure of Captain Maverick. It’s really more of an adventure game, though, with an exploration interface, plenty of puzzles, and three heroes who each have their own special abilities. It even acts a bit like Maniac Mansion at times, as Deon, Jack, and Max can split up to accomplish separate goals at the “same” time.

The new translation of Marvelous: Another Treasure has a new font, fully translated dialogue, edited introduction, title screen, and event graphics images in English, and a fix to keep people from going to different character sets when naming teams.

Marvelous: Another Treasure Island was originally released for the Super Famicom in 1996.
