Square Enix recently shared the latest footage for the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake for PlayStation 4, and they’ve followed up with an official press release on the game, giving details to how it’ll be a “multi-part series.”
“During this past weekend’s PlayStation Experience in San Francisco, SQUARE ENIX® debuted a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Remake, the full remake of the award-winning role-playing game, Final Fantasy VII . The new trailer features the first CG scenes as well as gameplay footage. Final Fantasy VII Remake will be told across a multi-part series, with each entry providing its own unique experience.”
Wall Street Journal reporter Takashi Mochizuki also chimed in on the subject:

Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PlayStation 4. The game was also added to the set of Square Enix titles to be showcased at Jump Festa 2016, but since it’s marked with only the trailer symbol, we’ll likely get to see a Japanese version of it at the event.
