Kazunori Sugiura is the general manager of one of the company’s Consumer Games Development divisions, and in an internally-conducted interview, he recently discussed the upcoming release of Breath of Fire 6, a free-to-play RPG for PC, Android, and iOS devices.

Breath of Fire 6 is distinct from past titles because it can be played for a short period of time,” Sugiura says. “The game is designed so that those who want to play a quest in single-player mode can enjoy it for a short period of time on the train, while four players in multiplayer mode can enjoy being immersed in the game at home.”

“Four users, who know each other very well or who live in different prefectures, can enjoy multiplayer gaming with one another in remote locations, as well as at home, if they have a working Internet connection.”

He adds, “Although each quest is short, Breath of Fire 6 has a long storyline in its entirety. The game has a lobby supporting many players, in which a great number of visitors can gather to enjoy conversation and exchange game items with each other. The world view, immersive story, and attractive characters of the predecessors have been carried over to this new one. We expect that Breath of Fire 6 will boast content that allows players to fully enjoy gameplay styles unique to online games.”

A closed beta test for Breath of Fire 6 will be launched in the Summer of 2015, Sugiura reveals. User feedback from the beta will be analyzed and implemented into the game’s initial release, which will be on Android devices this Autumn. Following that, the PC and iOS versions will release in Winter.

“We think of the Android version’s release as a kind of open beta test in which Android users will score the title in various terms,” Sugiura shares. “Based on these results, we will identify the points that we should improve on and will perform updates several times before finally releasing the iOS versions.”
