Bandai Namco made a Hajime no Ippo game for PlayStation 3 where you can box through the manga’s story or fight through "what if" storylines made just for the game. Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting also has a two player versus mode, but you won’t find it in any of the main menus.
Versus mode is hidden in the game until you punch in a code. First, highlight Watching Match. Then, pick up controller two and input L1 –> R1 –> left on the D-pad, right on the D-pad, square, and circle.
This unlocks Versus mode, but Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting puts Player 2 at a big disadvantage. Player 1 gets to choose their skill and the rival skill for Player 2. Also, the game still sets the camera behind Player 1 which is another handicap. It looks like Bandai Namco may have hidden this mode because it’s not balanced. Still, it’s nice to have a versus mode as an extra in Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting even if it’s not fully developed.
Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting comes out on December 11. A patch will be available starting on December 10, a day before the game launches, which speeds up loading times and addresses other bugs that can make the game run smoother.
