Back in August, SNK Playmore filed a lawsuit against Square Enix, accusing the company of using SNK characters without permission in a manga they publish in Japan. Titled High Score Girl, the manga is about arcade gaming and features various videogame characters.
Today, Square Enix announced that they are filing a lawsuit against SNK Playmore in their own defense, as they feel they have not infringed on any copyrights.
“Getting accused of the criminal complaint, the Company has decided to bring the said lawsuit to seek a declaratory judgment that the Company does not infringe the Defendant’s copyright,” a statement from Square Enix reads. “The Company will prove the point through civil procedures.”
The statement adds: “The Company has been cooperating fully with police investigations since the domiciliary search, and will continuously maintain the cooperative stance with good faith.”
