A firmware update released for the Nintendo 3DS in North America adds a couple of new features to the  system, as well as support for the custom themes that Nintendo announced a few weeks ago. The update, which is Version 9.0.0-20U, adds the following features:
- Support for custom themes to customize the HOME menu
- Five custom themes pre-installed (more can be purchased)
- Screenshots of HOME menu can now be captured
- Nintendo Image Share feature accessible from HOME menu
- Nintendo eShop Title Information page makes it easier to access demos and videos
- Stability improvements to the system
The themes that are presently available via the Theme Shop cost $0.99 or $1.99 each, and are primarily based on patterns or first-party Nintendo characters. Third-party themes haven’t been made available yet.
Update:Â Custom themes are available in Europe as well.
