The official Japanese website for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate has shared information on Serlegios, the game’s new mascot monster. In case you haven’t seen Serlegios in action, you can do so here.

Serlegios, the site reveals, will be able to inflict a brand new status ailment on players. This is called 裂傷, and translates to a laceration or “torn” state. While you’re suffering from this status effect, actions like running, dodging and attacking will cause you to take damage. (Walking is okay, though.)

See those scales the Serlegios is shooting in the screenshot above? That’s what causes the torn state. In order to recover from this state, you’ll need to remain crouched for a certain amount of time, or eat a Well-Done Steak.

The bright side to all of this is that the weapons you get from Serlegios have some very cool features to reward your efforts. For example; if you’re using a Serlegios Bowgun, dodging will automatically load a single shot from the ammo you presently have selected into the gun.

Meanwhile, in the case of close-range weapons, if the player dodges several times in a row with their weapon unsheathed, it will restore some of your sharpness.

Finally, for Serlegios bows, a physical damage enhancing effect (equivalent to that of the Power Coating item) has been added to the C. Range Coating item.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate will be released in the West sometime in early 2015.
