Protect Me Knight was a retro-style tower defense game by Ancient that released on Xbox 360’s Indie Games service, and it looks like its sequel is headed to the Nintendo 3DS with Protect Me Knight 2. The official website shows us what the game is all about.
If the music of the game sounds a little familiar, it was composed by Yuzo Koshiro, best known for his work on Sonic the Hedgehog and the Etrian Odyssey series.  Koshiro happens to be the co-founder of Ancient, the developers behind the game.
Protect Me Knight 2 is a simple tower defense game that uses 8-bit graphics to go with plenty of action. The premise of the game is simply to protect the princess, as you take on the role of six different heroes.
The playable characters include the powerful Fighter, the balanced Amazon, the speedy Ninja, the offense magic-based Mage, the strange knight with range Jiiya, and the projectile expert Archer.
As far as gameplay goes, you use combos to take out monsters and defend barricades. Youc an also create new barricades and move them around. There are also some RPG features such as weapon crafting and customizing skills. The gold acquired in combat are used to level up characters.
There’s local multiplayer, and you can also play with three other players using the game’s download play feature. Map Edit mode is also there for players with a creative touch, so there’s actually plenty of options for different kinds of players.
Protect Me Knight 2 will be released sometime in September for Nintendo 3DS for 800 yen as a downloadable eShop title.
