If you’re a fan of big robot shows, you’re likely familiar with that ubiquitous moment when pilots go “Launch!” and blast out of the launching bay, engines at full throttle.
Well, Knights of Sidonia fans can now experience what it’s like to be doing just that in a realistic, 3D manner with the Oculus Rift for a short period of time. If you’re in Japan, that is.
As part of Anime Festa in Tokorozawa, Saitama, visitors can strap on an Oculus Rift and experience the launch sequence for the Tsugumori mechs. This includes the whole cockpit feel and full head freedom of movement. The picture also seems to indicate you’ll be holding on to cockpit controls similar to the mech itself.
This special Oculus Rift event is on from now until the end of the festival on the 28th of September.
The event is held in an aviation museum, and other animes on display include replica Last Exile and Ghost in the Shell vehicles and Tachikoma’s.
