The “Luigi’s Death Stare” animation has managed to work its way into a Mario Kart 8 commercial in Japan, alongside similar dramatic facial expressions of the other playable racers in the game.

One can’t be certain whether or not this was intentional, although it wouldn’t surprising in the least if it were, given Nintendo’s recent tendency of capitalizing on Internet-style humour in their Nintendo Directs and other presentations.

Mario Kart 8 was released in Japan on May 29th. The game has sold in the range of 530,000 copies in the region thus far.
