Why Kingdom Hearts X[chi] Hasn’t Been Released In The West Yet?

This article is over 10 years old and may contain outdated information

There is one missing piece of the Kingdom Hearts saga that hasn’t been localized yet. Kingdom Hearts X[chi], is a browser game where you play as a Keyblade wielder during the great Keyblade War, and so far it has only been released for browsers in Japan. This part of the story weaves into Kingdom Hearts III too and Square Enix Japan is driving fans to since they’re bundling Kingdom Hearts X[chi] items with Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix.

So, why hasn’t the game been localized for the North America and Europe? Siliconera spoke to a source who explained Kingdom Hearts X[chi] was on track for localization and Disney was going to release it. Plans for Kingdom Hearts X[chi] changed when Playdom, a social game network acquired by Disney Interactive, was closed earlier this year.

The good news is there is still hope for Kingdom Hearts X[chi]. We hear from another source that Square Enix has been shopping the game around to other publishers since they do not have a network in the West for browser based games like they do in Japan.

Kingdom Hearts X[chi] is still live in Japan and Square Enix continues to host events for the title.
