The new sprites are being designed by illustrator Kurosaki of Caramel Box. Kurosaki provided the artwork for a Caramel Box eroge named Uhou Renka. MangaGamer have commissioned his work themselves specifically for Higurashi’s Steam re-release.

The re-translation edition of Higurashi When They Cry doesn’t have a release date yet, but MangaGamer hope to have the first chapter of the game out by the end of the year.
