River City Ransom from the Kunio series blended RPG and beat ’em up elements. Now Million is taking Kunio, his rival Riki, and other characters from the Kunio universe are about to appear in a fantasy RPG.
Hot-Blooded Magic Story turns Kunio into a legendary hero. He’s joined by three RPG archetypes – a warrior with light equipment, a knight, and a mage. Characters have different special attacks depending on what weapon (sword, staff, throwing item or bare hand) they have equipped. The mage can use spells like summoning a ghost, Fireball, Invisibility, and Whirlwind. Altogether, Hot-Blooded Magic Story has more than 40 skills.
Being a role playing game, Hot-Blooded Magic Story has loot to collect too. You can find 60+ items like the Ghost Sword which damages ghost, but is ineffective against tangible enemies and the Pig-Headed Old Man’s Cane that hits an enemy with lightning.
Hot-Blooded Magic Story has over 100 quests like recovering lost items (read: fetch quests) and eliminating monsters.
Arc System Works plans on releasing Hot-Blooded Magic Story as a Nintendo eShop download on April 30 for 994 yen plus tax.
