Marvelous AQL, the studio behind Senran Kagura and Arc Rise Fantasia, got into the music game gig with Bakumatsu Rock. The game takes place in feudal Japan with a rock and roll twist.

The Tokugawa Shogunate has been brainwashing people using the Heaven’s Song, but freedom fighters led by a rocker version of Sakamoto Ryoma are fighting back with music. Bakumatsu Rock came out for PSP in Japan back in February and we think there is a really good chance it will head to the West.

Marvelous AQL filed a trademark for Samurai Jam: Bakumatsu Rock in the USA. While there is an anime in the works, the trademark was specifically for video games. We don’t think Marvelous AQL would make an English name for the PSP rhythm game out of the blue, so we’re expecting it to be localized. Perhaps, Xseed will handle it?
